Yoga's biggest benefits come when we learn to carry what we learn in yoga class off the mat with us. Highly personalized private yoga instruction is a wonderful way to achieve this, which is why I offer private instruction for children, teens, siblings and families.
In private yoga sessions, we work together to determine intentions and goals - we start by discussing the ways that yoga can help us, and what benefits are hoped to be gained by doing yoga. Is it increased focus, calm, or confidence? Restoring or building connection and trust with each other (or with the self)? Learning healthier strategies when you want to pick a fight with your sibling? Learning strategies and practicing co-regulation and play? Managing big emotions? All of these, and more, are examples of benefits of yoga for young people!
A private class moves at exactly the right pace for the learner, with plenty of opportunities to consider the intention of our practice along the way. I encourage my students to notice and share their experience, and offer strategies and opportunities to take their learnings off the mat. A huge part of what makes private yoga instruction valuable is the facilitation of learner-centered discussion. I give young people the chance to be asked and to answer questions that spark gentle exploration in a supportive environment: what is it like to be you?
I offer private yoga to children and teens ages 4-18, siblings, and families. I approach all yoga instruction from a trauma-sensitive and brain-based background. Because of my unique experience of being raised in a foster home, I have a particular interest in working with nontraditional families: adoptive, foster, kinship placement or blended families.
